Colombia, Brazil and Mexico will sign a joint declaration next week demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities that began February 28 in the Middle East, involving the Israeli-U.S. coalition against Iran.
“I invited President Lula to Bogotá for the Celac-Africa meeting and he accepted,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro wrote on his X account. “We will sign a joint statement with Mexico and other countries that wish to join, calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East war so that peace dialogue can begin.”

The declaration seeks to consolidate a critical stance toward military interventions and denounce human rights violations being committed. The central objective is to open channels for dialogue and international alliances that can reduce the violence.
During the gathering, Bogotá will hand over the presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac, in Spanish) to Uruguay, on a day that coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The Celac-Africa Summit will take place from March 18 to 21 at the Ágora Bogotá Convention Center, with participation from 33 Latin American countries and 55 African nations, consolidating a space for cooperation.
This scenario reinforces the idea that Latin America and Africa can articulate joint responses to war and the expansion of the far right, promoting peace and the sovereignty of their peoples.
